Base Location: Flexible Ireland and Northern Ireland

Salary: Up to €111,800 depending on skills and experience + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

As a Senior Grid Engineer working in the onshore grid team in Ireland and NI, you'll be engaged in all grid related aspects on our development and operational projects, as well as assets we operate and maintain on behalf of third parties. As such, this will be a varied role offering great experience to the successful candidate on all aspects of grid, encompassing onshore wind, as well as the development and operation of other technologies including solar and battery energy storage systems.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Producing grid connection feasibility studies and grid plans and assisting the development and delivery of the grid connection strategy for onshore wind, hydro, solar and battery projects, including the identification of ancillary and system services opportunities.
  • Preparation and submission of Grid connection applications, review of resulting connection offers and negotiation of detailed technical and commercial terms with system operators.
  • Interpreting Grid Code requirements and achieving and maintaining Grid Code compliance, including reviewing Grid studies, Grid Code testing and performance monitoring.
  • Undertaking due diligence of Grid contracts in support of project acquisitions.
  • Keeping abreast of industry developments, understanding and anticipating future needs of the Electricity System Operator and cultivating good working relationships with key staff within the System Operator and wider industry and representing SSE Renewables on key industry panels.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Strong technical knowledge of electricity transmission systems, their operation and current/future challenges.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate requirements of relevant engineering legislation, codes and standards.
  • Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of the implications of engineering activities and decisions.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective organisation capabilities with the ability to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales.

Although flexible on base location, you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken, sometimes to remote locations. A full ROI driving licence is essential.
