Library Assistant

- Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (6-month placement)
We are seeking a Library Assistant for an immediate start to join our team at the national library based in Euston. This is a temporary position to cover a sabbatical leave for a minimum of 6 months. The role is situated within the Asian and African Studies Reading Room, a dynamic environment where you will be supporting the delivery of our services to a diverse community of users.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Assist library users in accessing reading room resources and provide guidance on the use of catalogues and databases.
- Handle enquiries and provide information about the library's collections and services.
- Support the maintenance of the reading room environment, ensuring it is a welcoming, tidy, and safe space for all users.
- Assist with the shelving and retrieval of library materials, as well as with the check-in and check-out process.
- Help to preserve the library's collections by following proper handling procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to deliver high-quality library services.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service skills and a friendly, helpful manner.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with library operations and systems is desirable.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A commitment to promoting access to learning resources and information.
