Director of Technical Design

Posted by SF Recruitment .

SF Executive are partnered with an innovative and high-growth events services business, which is looking to appoint a Director of Technical Design. This is a newly created position following sustained growth and is an opportunity for a driven, switched-on, and technically proficient individual to step into the exciting world of creating cutting-edge and imaginative structures for sporting, musical, brand, and public events.

The primary focus of the role will be on providing technical solutions centred around the feasibility of new projects (which can vary in scope and scale from client to client, project to project), and will also sit as the strategic lead of the Design/CAD team, to instigate new processes within the department and ensure all work is issued correctly and on time. Naturally, the role will require close working relationships with commercial, operations, and finance.

The successful individual will:

  • be from a similar sector such as construction, steel works, substructures, scaffolding or events TDS etc.
  • have a background in/had broad exposure to structural engineering and technical design.
  • be either from an experienced Head of Design level or be looking to progress and step-up from Design Manager (or similar alternative job titles).
  • be able to critically assess the feasibility of projects and be prepared to challenge – not taking everything on face value will be key in this area.
  • be someone with a truly creative and critical eye for technical detail.
  • be adept at leading and motivating a Design / CAD team and be credible in their knowledge in this area.
  • be innovative in their approach and certainly not be a "follower" – this role will suit someone with a strong character.

This role will be based full time in the businesses new offices in Milton Keynes and require a physical presence to be both visible and to engage with multiple internal stakeholders and to lead by example a team who have become used to hybrid working but who are being encouraged back into the office.
