Location: Wigan

Salary: £60k (dependent upon qualifications & experience)

Are you a dynamic and experienced leader with a passion for sports and event management? My client is looking for an Operations Director to oversee the seamless operation of the sports complex and stadium.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Manage the day-to-day operations of the stadium and entire sports complex, ensuring high standards of safety and efficiency.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain and enforce Health & Safety standards and ensure compliance with the General Safety Certificate.
  • Team Management: Lead the stadium safety team, and collaborate with various stakeholders and partners.
  • Strategic Contribution: Play a crucial role in the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the development and implementation of the business plan.

  • Safety & Security Officers
  • Grounds Team
  • Facilities/Maintenance Team

Decision-Making & Assets Management

  • Ensure effective, efficient, and safe operation of all services and facilities.
  • Oversee the management of associated budgets and facilities.

Key Contacts

  • Internal: Staff and Board Members
  • External: Professional and amateur sports clubs, associations, governing bodies, suppliers, contractors, and other partners.

Core Duties

  • Oversee daily operations and management of various sports facilities.
  • Work with senior management on budget setting and management.
  • Assist in capital works program development and implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Support the commercial sales and marketing strategy.
  • Monitor site services performance against KPIs.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in managing multifunctional leisure facilities or stadiums.
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulations and codes of practice.
  • Excellent decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and policies.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and professional sports clubs.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation, particularly the Green Guide & Purple Guide.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Degree or relevant professional qualification.

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 4 in Spectator Safety Management (to be obtained as part of ongoing training).
  • Health and safety qualification or equivalent experience.

Special Conditions

  • Availability to work bank holidays, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must be able to attend the site to handle operational matters as needed.
