We have an opening for a General Operative at Aggregate Industries' Westleigh Quarry. The quarry plays a key role in supplying aggregate to both internal and external markets. This position is perfect for someone who is dependable, proactive, and enthusiastic about learning.
Position: General Operative
Location: Aggregate Industries, Westleigh Quarry, Burlescombe, Devon, EX16 7JB
Pay Rate: £12.75 per hour
Overtime Rate: £18.00 per hour (for hours worked over 48)
Contract Duration: Initial 3-month contract with potential for permanent employment
Shift Pattern: Based on a 48-hour workweek, shifts vary depending on customer demand. The successful candidate must be fully flexible. Start time from 06:30.
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities:
- Operating fixed plant equipment (e.g., crushers) with full training provided
- Performing routine maintenance, including greasing and working at height (via ladder)
- Maintaining site cleanliness and upkeep
- Operating a loading shovel (training provided)
- Monitoring the site through CCTV from a control station
- Using computer systems to control plant operations
- Following the program of works via computer
- Communicating through tannoy and two-way radio
- Upholding the highest standards of Health and Safety at all times
Essential Requirements:
- Full driving licence and access to a car
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Comfortable working at heights
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks
- Basic IT literacy
- Familiarity with UK Health and Safety legislation
