Forester - Commercial Forestry Ops

Summary

We are looking for someone to join our West Lakes forestry team to help deliver our woodland management objectives across the western valleys of Wasdale, Eskdale and the Duddon.

You'll be involved with all types of tree related tasks from dealing with individual trees to thinning large woodland compartments.

Wasdale is in a remote rural area, please do consider how you'll travel to our place of work before applying.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £23868

Contract: Fixed for 12 Months

What it's like to work here

We are a small forestry team of 4, all with different skill sets, working closely together. We work in a supportive learning environment helping one another to make our forestry operations the best they can be. Joining as the fourth person you'll assist in working towards our annual work programme across the West Lakes. There are a variety of woodland tasks to deal with on a daily basis, from large thinning operations to storm damage to repairing woodland boundaries.

What you'll be doing

Daily duties will require using a chainsaw to fell trees of all sizes as part of our annual work programmes. All other associated tasks with timber extraction are required such as pulling out pole length trees with a 4wd tractor and winch, cross-cutting trees into sawmill products.

To do this successfully you'll:

be required to help maintain all types of machinery and equipment

support other tree related tasks involve dealing with dangerous trees as part of our tree safety management obligations

be involved with fencing and dry stone wall repairs.
