Location: Whitstable, Kent

Salary: up to £45,000

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday to Thursday 8.00 - 4.30 and Friday 8.00 - 1.30

Role Summary:

As a Manufacturing Engineer with a quality bias, you will play a critical role in our clients manufacturing operations, focusing on product quality and process improvement. You will be responsible for evaluating and enhancing manufacturing processes, implementing quality control measures, and ensuring adherence to industry standards. Your expertise in quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies will be instrumental in driving our clients commitment to excellence.

Key responsibilities within your new role would be to:

  • Support the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, whilst playing an active role in the development of the quality engineering function and supporting customer requirements.
  • Support in product/process design and development activity.
  • Ensure risk analysis is complete and all product risks are identified using DFMEAs, PFMEAs, APQP, Capability Studies and other risk management techniques.
  • Access and maintain technical documentation using a PDM system.
  • Be able to read complex drawings and apply/interrogate product specifications.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and methods to check product, material, components and/or operational quality.
  • Develop and implement technically complex methods and procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection to ensure that the products are free of flaws and function as designed.
  • Perform QMS and product audits against ISO9001 and AS9100, identifying actions to develop, assure, and maintain the quality of products and processes.
  • Complete FAIRs of products.
  • Complete relevant forms to customer requirement and perform approval of reports.
  • Perform investigation and comply fully with resolution process.
  • Support supplier / process / customer quality improvement activities.
  • Interface with supplier quality representatives concerning quality problems, ensure that effective corrective actions are implemented, and support development of supplier quality improvement programs where required.
  • Support issue resolution for factory operations group.
  • Perform root cause analysis of reported concerns and defective products.
  • Determine trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Experience and skills required for this position:

  • HNC or above level qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to read technical drawings and work with specification documents
  • Experience working as a Quality Engineering within a manufacturing or Process Engineering environment
  • Experience of supporting DFMEA/PFMEA
  • Experience of AS9100 and related specifications
  • Experience using measuring equipment
  • Experience dealing with production problems and applying robust corrective actions.
  • Root cause analysis and 8D problem solving
  • Mechanical bias with some electrical skills
  • An understanding of the NPI process and quality tools used to eliminate risk during manufacture
  • Practical problem solving skills, including understanding manufacturing processes and solving issues on the shop floor to create robust countermeasures

Desirable:

  • Use of CAD with an understanding of PDM and product life cycle software
  • Previous experience using MRP systems
  • Product verification (FAIRS)
  • APQP and PPAP activity
