Head of Housing - Interim Role

Location:

Remote (occasional travel required)

Contract Type

: Interim, Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Daily Rate:

£250 - £350 (via umbrella)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee housing management services, including financial, staffing, and resource management.
  • Manage operational staff, focusing on occupancy, customer experience, property standards, and financial viability.
  • Monitor rental income, housing benefit payments, and ensure compliance with internal procedures and service level agreements.
  • Serve as the health and safety officer, leading all related aspects.
  • Build and manage relationships with supported housing providers, ensuring high-quality service delivery and addressing underperformance.
  • Drive continuous improvement with a focus on customer experience, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Report on policy, training, and procedural changes due to regulatory updates.
  • Develop and maintain policies and practices to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Engage with stakeholders including portfolio landlords, local authorities, and charity partners.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and risk management, including preparing and presenting reports to the Board.
  • Identify new business opportunities and support growth.

Key Tasks for Interim Role:

  • Conduct agent meetings to ensure they remain on track and provide guidance.
  • Update policies and procedures as needed.
  • Manage provider meetings and report key information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain quality checks, handle provider queries, and maximise income from properties.
  • Oversee health and safety checks and manage issues related to council tax and housing benefit.
  • Ensure leases and SLAs are managed effectively.

Essential Criteria:

  • Extensive experience in housing management at a senior level.
  • Understanding of supported and exempt accommodation.
  • Proven team management, partnership, and contract monitoring skills.
  • Experience in executive and board performance reporting.
  • Knowledge of rent and service charge setting and housing benefit legislation.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency with software systems.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and adapt to change.
  • Understanding of GDPR and confidentiality requirements.

Desirable Criteria:

Experience with hard-to-reach groups and partnership working.
