We are working with Doncaster Council to find a Senior Legal Officer on an interim basis.
Job Type: Full time – flexible working policy in place
Length of role: Initial 3 months. Potential to extend.
Hourly rate: £50-£55 per hour dependent on experience. Rates are via Umbrella company. Role is inside IR35.
Location: Hybrid.
We are seeking a Legal Officer to provide and manage legal support for the Council, with a focus on Town and Country Planning and Highway related issues. This role is under the direction of the Principal Legal Officer and offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the Council's legal framework.
Day to Day of the Role:
- Deliver legal advice and support in legal specialisms such as Town and Country Planning, Highway Law, and Compulsory Purchase.
- Provide high-quality and timely legal advice to the Council, its officers, and elected members in both written and oral forms.
- Handle planning inquiries and Judicial Review processes.
- Prepare strategic, local, and neighbourhood plans.
- Conduct all work in accordance with internal policies and procedures, including the effective use of case management and time recording systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in providing legal support within a local government setting.
- Specialised knowledge in Town and Country Planning, Highway Law, and Compulsory Purchase.
- Ability to draft complex legal documentation and provide sound legal advice.
- Experience in dealing with planning inquiries, Judicial Review, and advocacy before Courts or Tribunals.
- Competency in using case management and time recording systems.
