Job Role
The Financial Stock Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of stock management within the business. This role focuses on accurate stock valuation, maintaining stock accuracy across all systems, and ensuring the integrity of stock-related financial data. The successful candidate will work closely with the group accounting, merchandising, product development, logistics and retail operations teams to provide financial oversight and support.
Key Responsibilities:
Stock Valuation:
- Ensure accurate and timely valuation of stock across all business channels.
- Perform regular reconciliations of stock valuations in financial systems.
- Analyse variances and discrepancies in stock valuation and propose corrective actions.
Stock Accuracy and Integrity:
- Maintain the integrity of stock data within the financial and inventory systems.
- Collaborate with the merchandising team and the logistics team to ensure alignment of financial records with physical stock.
- Conduct periodic stocktakes across all channels to ensure accuracy
System Processes and Controls:
- Implement and monitor robust financial controls related to stock management.
- Oversee stock-related transactions within the financial systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Provide recommendations for system improvements to enhance stock data accuracy and financial reporting.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and present stock-related financial reports, including valuation summaries and variance analyses.
- Assist in month-end and year-end financial closing processes related to stock.
- Provide clear and effective support to both internal and external customers, addressing their needs and responding promptly.

- Ad-hoc duties: you will at times be required to carry out duties not listed above; whether that is to support another colleague, take on additional responsibilities or to get involved in project work.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience in a similar financial stock control role within the retail or wholesale sector.
- Strong knowledge of stock valuation methods and financial controls.
- Proficiency in financial and inventory management systems (e.g., Dynamics BC, SAP, NetSuite).
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Advanced Excel skills.
Measuring Success:
- Financial and unit records for stock match across transactional and reporting systems, including warehouse management systems
- Stock movements in the P&L are accurate, and cost of sales are correctly reported
- Stocktakes are completed to timetable and action plans in put place for significant adverse results
