Are you passionate about creating a positive impact in your community? If so, BRC are looking for a Mental Health case worker to join an amazing charity in Blaenau Gwent to work in their supported housing programmes.

This fantastic charity is committed to vulnerable individuals at risk of homelessness. The team works tirelessly to offer practical and emotional support to clients and assist them in rediscovering their independence.

As a Mental Health case worker. the successful candidate will be a key member of the team and will be responsible for providing support within the supported living projects provided by this charity. They will assess service users' needs and ensure that the correct support is provided, leasing with external agencies such as healthcare providers where necessary. They will empower clients by allowing them to get involved with the service itself and make positive choices, fostering their independence. The position will involve managing a caseload of individuals as well as providing one to one support, and the right candidate will have the flexibility to manage both. It is vital that you are able to build and maintain strong relationships with the service users.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for service users at all times.
  • Ensuring safeguarding and health and safety measures are in place.
  • Carrying out risk assessments where necessary.
  • Providing compassionate emotional support, as well as offering practical advice and solutions.
  • Working with external services and a wider team to ensure that holistic support is being provided.
  • Manage referrals into the project and lead assessments to ascertain the needs of these individuals.
  • Work alone and as part of a team.
  • Deliver personalised, psychologically informed, and harm-minimising support.
  • Managing a caseload, establishing an open and trusted relationship acting as each service user's single point of contact and support.
  • Advocate for client's independence.
  • To deliver trauma-informed support using a range of therapeutic skills and psychosocial interventions and supporting clients to develop independent living skills to prevent crisis or tenancy failure in the future.

To be successful in this position:

  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Academic qualification in mental health or housing related support.
  • Experience in dealing with disputes and resolving complex stations.
  • Evidence of professional development and willingness to undertake training.
  • Experience within a support setting within with a wide range of professionals and partners.
  • Experience in support work with an understanding of housing options, housing law and basic benefits.
  • Able take part in the on-call rota.
  • A strong character who can remain calm and collected in challenging situations.
