Ambulance care assistant

Recruitment 99 has new opportunities to join our clients Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service where you can develop your career in the private ambulance service.

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated people who will be a reassuring presence for patients, ensuring their safe and comfortable transportation offering support and assistance with mobility when needed. The role involves driving, or assisting as part of a crew, patients with different requirements based on their mobility. You will be required to drive a variety of vehicles, including cars and ambulances.

As part of our recruitment and compliance process you will be required to undertake a driving assessment and a regular Drug and Alcohol Test and successfully complete our in-house skills assessment day. You will also need a clear Enhanced DBS Certificate issued within the last 12 months or be subscribed to the DBS update service.

Essential / Experience:

  • At least 2 years' experience of driving with a full UK manual driving license - (No more than 3 endorsement points)
  • Must have a valid FREC 3 Qualification or Ambulance Care Assistant Certificate (in date)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • To be flexible, approachable, calm, enthusiastic, honest and have integrity.
  • Applicants require excellent communication skills and a good level of English (spoken and written).
  • Physical Fitness Requirement: A high level of physical fitness is essential for success in this role. Your responsibilities will include manual handling. Being in excellent physical condition is crucial to ensure that you can provide rapid and effective medical care to those in need.
  • We support the NHS every hour of every day and so we need people who can work at weekends as required.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for transporting patients to and from hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities and ensuring they are safe and well cared for.
  • Working as a single or double crew, responsible for either driving the ambulance or supporting the travelling patient.
  • Use of carry chairs, stair climbers, wheelchairs, stretchers, and scoops.
  • Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users.
  • Maintaining the ambulance equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean and in good working condition.
  • Ensure that all patients are treated with dignity and respect in communications and actions, in particular taking account of cultural differences and disability and in line with Company policy.
  • Ensure the safe handover of patients to/from clinical settings ensuring clear and concise communication with relevant personnel.
  • Accurately complete all appropriate documentation in accordance with company policies and submit within required timeframes.
  • The accurate recording of all journey information such as deterioration in patient's health, accidents and incidents or any other required documentation as required.
  • Be flexible in attitude to meet the constantly changing nature of care and service delivery.
  • Undertake required learning and ensure that this is put into practice and maintain personal CPD via our online training portal every 12 months.
