Mortgage Underwriter

  • Job Title/Location: Underwriter, Surrey/WFH
  • Salary: c.£40k + bonus + pension + free parking + study support (flex to £45k for perfect person)
  • Office/WFH: Office based 1 day per week, the rest being WFH. The 4-6 week training period is fully office based
  • Requirements: Solid manual underwriting experience covering the Buy to Let market (1st Charge)
  • Role Snapshot: Processing and administering loan applications from initial acceptance to the checking of the advance release and mortgage offer approval

The Company: Our client is a highly professional Financial Services company who base their customer services model on first rate customer service as opposed to the hard sell. An office of around 225 people that has doubled in size in recent years and this expansion is continuing through 2024 and into 2025.

The Role: This post revolves around assessing loan applications to ensure the completeness of documentation to company standards and, in relation to introduced cases, liaise with Intermediary's/BDM's to procure the submission of omitted items as necessary. Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertake appraisal of applications received and submit recommendations, as to underwriting checks to be undertaken, to either the Assistant Manager or Head of Loans Underwriting
  • Case ownership from Application to Offer. Drive application to offer times by tracking the mortgage pipeline within the SLA
  • Produce Loan Offers in compliance with the Lending Policy and laid down procedures, for submission to and approval by the Assistant Manager/Head of Loans Underwriting
  • Despatch Mortgage Offers and Solicitors Instructions, if applicable, following approval
  • Arrange the preparation and despatch of loan proceeds
  • Produce completion details and authorise the release of funds presented by the Completions Officer

Skills / Experience Required: For this Underwriter role our clients' key requirement is solid manual underwriting experience that includes BTL cases (1st Charge). Also, once training is complete, you must be able to work from their Surrey office 1 day per week.

Additional Information: Salary for the Underwriter role is c.£40,000 + bonus, pension, study support, life & health benefits and free parking. There is flex to £45,000 for the perfect person.
