Job Title: Payroll Officer

Starting: ASAP

Duration: 3 months with potential for extension

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9 - 5

Location: Old Street, North London

Pay: £13.50 to £14.50 paye per hour

£14.50 to £16 paye inclusive per hour

£16.50 to £17.50 umbrella per hour

Pay is dependent on skills and experience

Job Summary:

The post holder is responsible for processing the payroll of our temporary workforce, working closely with the erostering team and other associated teams to facilitate weekly payroll.

Duties:

  • Inputting starters onto ESR within payroll deadlines and ensuring that starter paperwork is delivered to the payroll department in a timely manner
  • Maintain electronic filing systems, ensuring security and confidentiality of information, record keeping, and archiving information.
  • Provide information and if appropriate, advice on all matters related to pay, service conditions and the NHS Pension Scheme.
  • Make accurate and authorised payments, including resolving any queries.
  • Maintain payroll-related records including Income Tax, National Insurance, Pensions, Occupational and Statutory Sick and Maternity/Paternity Pay, Adoption leave and Family Tax Credits and any other relevant payments or deductions.
  • Process manual calculations, as required including but not limited to tax calculations and net overpayment etc.
  • Support the Payroll Liaison Officer in the production of payroll reports as part of the end-to-end payroll processing in accordance with relevant SOP and checklist instructions.
  • Process appropriate reports, schedules and documents and distribute as required.
  • Identify and investigate discrepancies, or queries at any point in the payroll process and either resolve or refer to the appropriate team member for action if required.
  • Ensure the temporary staffing team are made aware of any data or service issues which could delay payment to workers.

Essential Knowledge:

  • 1 years NHS experience and preferably 2 or more
  • 3 years payroll experience working in a high pressure environment
  • Experience of working with outsourced providers
  • Detailed knowledge of legislation applicable to payroll
  • Well-honed analytical skills, confidently able to analyse data to investigate and resolve payroll enquiries.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge using ESR
  • CIPP Qualification
  • Experience of working with outsourced providers

  • High level of attention to detail and accurate data input skills
  • Good level of planning and organisational skills
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to deliver at pace, managing workload to ensure payroll deadlines are met whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Able to complete complex manual calculations correctly.
  • Resilient under pressure, able to deal with conflict positively.
