Digital Content Officer

The starting salary for this full-time role is £32,512 per annum, working 36 hours per week.

This role is initially being offered as an 18-month fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity.

We are delighted to be hiring a new Digital Content Officer to join our successful Web and Digital Services Team. The team is based at the Dakota Building in Weybridge although there are opportunities to work from home. This is an exciting role for someone to help ensure that the information and services available on our website and other digital channels are accessible, easy to use and provide an excellent customer experience.

About the team
The Web and Digital Services Team leads Surrey County Council's website editing, content planning and design. It is part of Customer Services, which provides a single point of contact for around 90% of the organisation's initial contacts and is the focal point for receiving feedback from the public. As a centre of customer service excellence, we provide information, advice, and support to services across the whole county council.

About the role
The Digital Content Officer is responsible for undertaking the duties of Webmaster, supporting, page authors and information owners. By working closely with team members, our contact centre and undertaking usability reviews and user testing, they ensure that the website provides our customers with quick and easy access to information and services.

We are looking for someone who is experienced in writing website content for a diverse audience to a high level of accuracy and reliability.

Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting your application will need to evidence the following:

  • Experience of reviewing and improving information architecture of websites and grouping and presenting content and information clearly.
  • Experience of reviewing and managing website analytics, search data and customer feedback, to inform content improvements and track user behaviour.
  • A strong understanding of logical structure and formatting of web copy.
  • Experience of using Content Management Systems at an administrator level.
  • Experience of conducting website user testing with members of the public.
  • High level IT literacy and excellent working knowledge of new technologies.
  • Ability to use initiative and communicate with a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with services and ensure information on the website is accurate and up to date.
