Job Description:

Empowering Learning is representing a Secondary school with an SEN unit in Hounslow. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to work with our deaf students (HI). We are committed to providing an inclusive and supportive educational environment for all our students, and we are looking for a qualified individual to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supporting Deaf Students: Provide one-on-one or small group support to deaf students in various educational settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and specialized programs.
  2. Communication Assistance: Assist students in developing and improving their communication skills, including British Sign Language (BSL), speech therapy, and other communication methods as needed.
  3. Classroom Support: Collaborate with teachers to modify and adapt instructional materials and techniques to meet the unique needs of deaf students.
  4. Resource Preparation: Prepare and organize educational materials, resources, and technology to enhance the learning experience of deaf students.
  5. Behavioral Support: Assist in managing and addressing behavioral challenges and providing positive behavioral interventions when necessary.
  6. Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assist in assessing and monitoring students' progress, keeping accurate records, and reporting findings to the teaching staff and parents/guardians.
  7. Inclusion Support: Facilitate the inclusion of deaf students in mainstream classrooms and ensure they have equal access to educational opportunities.
  8. Supportive Environment: Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that promotes the social and emotional well-being of deaf students.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma is required; a bachelor's degree in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students is a strong asset.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the educational needs of deaf students.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive strategies for deaf students is a plus.
