Information Governance Manager

Our client a globally leading healthcare provider in their field, requires an Information Governance Manager at their offices in the Central London (City). The role will support colleagues at all levels to facilitate change as part of the Trust's ambition to use data efficiently and effectively supporting strategic innovation to deliver clinical transformation in the short, medium and long terms.

The Information Governance Manager will be a team player with management experience and a track record of best practice information governance delivery in a care provider or research environment. You will be experienced in successfully managing transformation projects from a governance perspective and will be able to demonstrate how good information governance compliance supports care now and in the future.

The role is based in the City of London.

Key Responsibility - Information Governance Manager

  • Manage one direct report. Coordinate and manage Information Governance operations supporting research, keeping the SMT apprised of outcomes and escalating issues as appropriate.
  • Provide expert and specialist Information Governance advice and expertise on health research and related data access initiatives, developing high-quality, user-friendly and accurate guidance in a range of formats.
  • Manage information asset accession and information security reviews relating to research proposals, including information assessments, data protection impact assessments for new and existing research systems/processes/projects involving processing of data, ensuring that proposals are compliant and in the required format for approval.
  • Ensure research-related policies, procedures and guidelines are compliant with data protection legislation and are implemented effectively and efficiently across the search function.
  • Work with the managers and principal investigator to ensure the maintenance of their entries to the information asset register.
  • Develop and provide training and guidance for research colleagues.
  • Investigate and report on Information Governance complaints and incidents in line with Trust policy as required, particularly where they are linked to research.
  • Ensure the Trust is compliant with legislative requirements for data sharing or licensing.
  • Provide input to the Trust's Information Governance and corporate risk registers and reporting requirements.
  • Manage the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) activity, including the collation and provision of evidence, and coordination of returns.
  • Assist with DPA requests relating to research (including requests that overlap between the DPA and the FoIA) and respond to DPA complaints where necessary.
  • Assist with Information Governance Departmental work planning. This includes planning and coordinating specialist project advice and technical support, planning and coordinating specialist advice and guidance.
  • Monitor and support internal and management audits of research processes to identify gaps or weaknesses in current practices or systems.
  • Provide leadership for, and the Information Governance element of research governance groups, ensuring terms of references are up to date and aligned with other governance structures at the Trust
  • Manage, support and develop the Information Compliance Officer.
  • Attend external Information Governance and Research Forums to develop strong and productive relationships with Information Governance leads in other NHS organisations and with wider stakeholders and to help influence the national policy agenda on Information Governance.

Skills & Experience - Information Governance Manager

  • Experienced Information Governance Manager from a Healthcare Provider, Research or Higher Education background.
  • Proven Management and Project Management experience - delivering governance requirements for large transformation projects.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven stakeholder management and advisory experience.
  • A desire to lead information governance for a patient-lead provider.
