Academic Progress Coach

Salary: up to £26,000 per annum (DOE)

The Academic Progression Coach will provide progression support and advice to students with the purpose of maximising student outcomes, achievement and satisfaction levels.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Academic Support and attendance

  • Support students to maximise their chances of automatically progressing to the degree course of their choice whilst ensuring the best possible student experience and achievement.
  • Provide personal tutorage support cover to students throughout the semester.
  • Gather student information from Personal Tutors on a weekly basis to establish ways of supporting students.
  • Meet with allocated Subject Heads and Progression Management team to discuss students at risk of not automatically progressing, students with poor attendance and any students who may require additional support through attendance, behavioural, welfare and fitness to study issues.
  • Meet with students who have poor attendance at Level 1, 2 and in some cases Level 3 liaising with Progression & Transition Manager.
  • Support Personal Tutors with delivering information to students, monitoring attendance proactively and feeding back RPAG data.
  • Ensure that students are referred to appropriate Study Group, University or external services where appropriate and necessary.
  • Monitor RPAG data when released and meet with students who are at risk of not automatically progressing.
  • Identify key trends and patterns from student data, such as RPAG and attendance, and actively feed data into Senior Leadership, Progression Management meetings and other Centre led meetings.
  • Communicate with non-progressed students as directed by Progression & Transition Manager.

Transition and Student Voice

  • Support Student Experience & Transition Officer in organising events e.g. university activities, faculty fairs, transition events, guest lectures and workshops for student development.
  • Support Student Experience and Transition Officer to formalise and organise Student Rep training, ensuring a bank of students is available as and when required
  • Attend Student Forum meetings, ensuring accurate minutes are recorded and distributed to relevant Teams in the ISC.
  • Support effective interaction with Alumni, facilitating involvement of students.

Welcome Week and Social Activities

  • Support Progression & Transition Manager in communicating and inviting University partners to include Support Services, Partnership Tutors and progressed students to Induction periods.
  • Support late registration of students.
  • Support Student Experience & Transition Officer in organising social activities and student led activities to include Building Futures, Student Union organisation, MentISC, Progression Award Ceremony and trips.

ABOUT YOU

Essential:

  • Experience and knowledge of providing academic and/or pastoral support to international/ ESL students.
  • Experience of building build strong working relationships with internal and external colleagues
  • Experience of using data and reporting systems
  • Experience of being able to time manage with the ability to prioritise work, forward think and plan
  • Experience of organising events/activities/projects
  • Experience of being flexible and working to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and listening skills with the ability to communicate to a variety of stakeholders, written and verbal, internal and external
  • Strong IT and data management skills including: competency in Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word, and a willingness to learn and adopt new technologies
