Role summary:

The main purpose is to provide legal and commercial advice on client-facing construction and supply contracts in the renewable energy sector within the UK and Europe. The role covers a diverse range of contract values from several £10k's, several £1m's, several £100m's and potentially contracts in the £1bn range. Experience and solid understanding of NEC or FIDIC with an ability to utilise knowledge across all forms of contracts is essential.

The role also encompasses preparation of supplier/sub-contractor contracts reflecting client-facing terms, maintenance of templates and management of claims and disputes, both client and contractor-facing.

Skills/Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal and commercial advice generally to the business unit.
  • Support sales activity and business development including contract reviews.
  • Support project work including contract reviews and contract preparation.
  • Draft and update standard templates.
  • Handle claims and disputes.
  • Instruct external law firms or counsel as may be required.
  • Review and draft non-disclosure agreements.
  • Provide internal legal and compliance training.
  • Oversee export control compliance and manage data protection compliance within the business unit.
  • Advise on general compliance issues.
  • Work with other lawyers within the company and attend company legal and compliance.

Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience of NEC, FIDIC, BEAMA or similar terms in the construction sector and preferably in the renewable energy sector.
