Shifts: Days and afternoons, 2 shift system

Hours per week: Average 42-hour week plus overtime

Position Summary

We are expanding our existing team of Locomotive Engineers at our Depot in Crewe and are looking to engage a few new Locomotive Fitters to commence work with immediate effect.

Working as part of a small but succinct engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Safety and Maintenance of the Companies busy Fleet of Class 92 and 90 Locomotive stock in line with company Standards and Procedures

Our vacancies cover both Bogie Maintenance and Repair (2 shift system) plus Locomotive Maintenance and Servicing (3 shift system)

Person Profile/Experience:

A skilled Technician and ideally time served, you may have previous experience of undertaking maintenance, service and repair work on Diesel/Electric Locomotives but failing that we are keen to speak with Technicians from any of the following areas:

HGV's/PSV's/Heavy Mobile Plant.

Military Vehicles/Systems.

Automotive.

Generators and Aircraft Starter Systems

You'll have the ability to make sound engineering decisions and will have good communication skills, written and oral and happy to work a mixed hours shift pattern.

You may have a current PTS, but this is not essential as successful candidates will undertake a local PTS course should it be required.

Adhere to health and safety and local safety policy requirements, and other safety and technical standards. Comply with all instructions, rules and regulations in force

Maintain, service, fault find and repair Locomotives in accordance with the approved maintenance plans as required by the local manager

Ensure all relevant paperwork for examinations and repairs is correctly completed on time and to required company standards

You will be physically fit and healthy, you will be required to undertake a NWR related medical and drugs & alcohol test which must be passed before any offer can be made, have a good sense of humour and be prepared to work outdoors where required. You will ideally have a full (clean) driving license and be flexible enough to travel to other local sites in the region from time to time

Due to the nature of the work/role, an appreciation of H&S at work is essential, plus in line with Rail Industry Protocols there is a zero policy re being under the influence of Drugs or Alcohol

Qualifications and desirable assets:

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a Mechanical/Electrical fitting skill set

Ex Military

Aviation

Must be able to work a varied hours shift pattern

Experience essential

Good sense of humour

Excellent work ethic, reliable and punctual
