Sports Coach / Learning Mentor - Nurture Setting (Year 11 - Secondary PRU College)

We are seeking a resilient, motivated, and compassionate Sports Coach / Learning Mentor to join a dedicated team within a specialist Secondary PRU College, supporting Year 11 students who require a tailored and nurturing approach to education.
This role is ideal for someone who believes in the power of sport and mentoring to engage young people, build trust, and promote emotional and behavioural development. The students you'll support may present with a range of social, emotional, or mental health needs, and will benefit from consistent, positive adult relationships and structured support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver structured sports, fitness, and enrichment sessions that support physical health, teamwork, and self-regulation
- Work one-to-one and in small groups to offer academic and emotional mentoring
- Support behaviour interventions using restorative approaches and trauma-informed practice
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students who have disengaged from mainstream education
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to support individual student progress
- Encourage resilience, attendance, engagement, and transition planning for post-16 pathways
Person Specification:
- Experience working with young people, ideally in alternative provision, youth work, or SEND/SEMH environments
- Coaching qualifications (e.g. Level 1 or 2 in sport or physical education) or equivalent experience
- Confident in managing behaviour using calm, consistent, and emotionally intelligent strategies
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice, restorative approaches, and de-escalation techniques
- Able to motivate and inspire vulnerable learners while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations
- A strong team player committed to inclusion and safeguarding
