Laboratory Supervisor - Microbiology - Food Testing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Quality Coordinator to join a dynamic team in the Microbiology department. The primary role is to assist in the application and daily implementation of the ISO17025 based Quality System, ensuring the quality of all data produced and maintaining compliance with relevant standards.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Responsible for the daily implementation of the ISO17025 Quality System and ensuring ongoing compliance through personal actions and delegation to appropriately trained personnel.

  • Ensure the validity of results by:

  • Ensuring adherence to good laboratory practice by all microbiologists.

  • Overseeing the processing of daily controls and acting upon all failures.

  • Overseeing the quality control of media and acting upon all failures.

  • Handle test items safely up to the point of transfer to the chemistry lab.

  • Assist the Quality Manager in reviewing the hygiene programme and take corrective action on all failures.

  • Carry out equipment calibration and ensure microbiological technical records are accurate and complete.

  • Complete non-compliance reports for the microbiology lab as required.

  • Assist in reviewing Quality Documentation against national and international standards, UKAS, and RSA requirements.

  • Resolve compliance issues as they occur and carry out test witnessing of microbiology methods.

  • Attend regular Quality Meetings and deputise for the Quality Manager when needed.

  • Commit to constant improvement and comply with all Health and Safety regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in implementing and managing ISO17025 Quality Systems within a microbiology environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in laboratory practices and managing quality control processes.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive in resolving issues and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with UKAS and RSA requirements is highly desirable.
