Interim Senior Planning Officer

Based in South East England , hybrid working

Length: 6 months

Inside IR35

The role primarily involves dealing with a wide range of planning applications. These will including major residential and commercial schemes. The officer will be expected to undertake site visits, negotiate as required and draft reports/recommendations. Other tasks will include giving pre-application and answering general queries.

Core deliverables of the Senior Planning Officer:

  • To effectively manage a planning caseload comprising the processing of planning applications of all types including case validation, discussion and negotiation with customers, consultation and discussion with interested parties, preparing reports, making recommendations and discharging of conditions
  • To attend Planning Committee when requested presenting reports and recommendations as directed
  • To prepare written representations on proofs of evidence for appeals and, if required, to attend and give evidence at hearings and public inquiries as the Council's expert
  • To contribute to the development and review of planning policies and related policy documents
  • To ensure that all duties are carried out in compliance with statutory provisions and with the Council's policies for health and safety

Experience and knowledge required of the Senior Planning Officer:

  • Qualified Town Planner
  • An understanding and appreciation of the significance and impact of the latest developments in planning legislation and guidance
  • Understanding of change management or working in a culture of continuous improvement
  • Support major developments across the Borough
