Maninplace has been responding and supporting people who present as homeless or rough living in Telford for over 17 years. Our staffing team is committed to providing a safe environment that enables customers to develop their confidence, self-esteem and helps them reach their full potential.

As a "Housing Officer" you will be part of a dedicated team ensuring we provide a high-quality temporary accommodation service that reduces the risk of a return to homelessness or rough living.

You must be confident to work as a lone worker, as well as being part of a dynamic and proactive team. You will be flexible, highly self-motivated, and able to turn your hand to all aspects of the role, all while bringing a strong contribution to the organisation. Every aspect of the role will maintain a person-centred approach that supports all customers in a choice-based environment. Your tenacious and resilient nature will ensure every task is completed to a high standard and promotes the wellbeing and confidence of customers accommodated within the service.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Qualifications at level GCSE or above in English, Maths.
  • Experience in housing/supported housing or homelessness provision would be advantageous.
  • You will be required to hold a Full UK driving licence and have use of your own vehicle, with business use insurance cover (evidence required at induction). This may already be included within your existing policy, insurer dependant. Please check with your policy provider)
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate is required for all applicants.

Job Summary

You will work to ensure a high standard of quality exists throughout our accommodation units, including decoration, cleanliness, and matters relating to Health & Safety. It will be your responsibility to complete the preperation of accommodation prior to letting, including the carrying out of thorough cleaning, minor redecoration tasks, small repairs, furniture building, and presenting the accommodation in readiness for the new arrival, all to company standard.

You will work with individuals to identify and implement accommodation plans, and review these on a regular basis, the goal being that of acquiring and maintaining a long-term tenancy. Customers will come to you with requests for assistance relating to their accommodation needs, they may also require help to access support services applicable to their needs.

Alongside colleagues, you will help to provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment that will help customers to move from surviving, to thriving.

The daily interactions, coupled with accommodation plans and regular reviews, will enable you to inspire and encourage customers to reach their personal housing goals, thus preventing a return to rough sleeping or homelessness. You will also assist customers to develop their skills and confidence, as well as their sense of wellbeing, to enable independent living and tenancy sustainment.

  • Be very flexible in your work approach and your availability.
  • Be able to manage your own workload with flexibility and efficiency.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Have basic DIY skills, i.e., preparation and painting abilities, and be able to construct flat packed furniture.
  • A mature and non-judgmental approach to all customers and staff, understanding and considering equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Have an ability to approach things with a person-centred, choice-based, and positive approach. Finding the solutions, not to emphasise negatives.
  • Have the ability to motivate others and negotiate positive outcomes when challenges arise.
  • Be Computer literate with experience of using software such as Microsoft Office 365 and email systems.
