An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Internal Audit team at the Cumberland. The Cumberland is undergoing an ambitious transformation programme with Internal Audit playing an important role by providing assurance over the activities across the organisation including new and emerging strategic deliverables.

The Role

As part of the Internal Audit team, reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, you will play an active role in leading, managing and delivering, mainly a portfolio of conduct and operational risk themed audits whilst balancing timescales, budgetary and resource challenges. You will also help in the wider development of Internal Audit's talent and capabilities, taking a leading role in the identification, scheduling, monitoring, delivering and peer review of conduct/operational risk themed audits.

Core Responsibilities

You'll own and supervise the delivery of assigned portfolio of audits ensuring that:

  • Assigned audits are carefully planned and scoped appropriately resourced, and clearly communicated to the relevant business unit (BU) stakeholders.
  • Audit progress is closely monitored and regularly communicated to the Head of Internal Audit and BU stakeholders.
  • Audits are executed efficiently in line with budgeted effort and timescales to a high standard, fully in accordance with Internal audit methodology.
  • Audit findings are carefully formulated to mitigate risk and add value. Findings are communicated promptly to BU management in a clear, concise and influential manner (verbal and written).

You'll effectively apply risk-based planning methodology, support the Head of Internal Audit and the wider IA team in developing, monitoring, resourcing and continuously evolving, an overall audit plan that is flexible and responsive to changing business environment.

You'll also:

  • Support the Head of Internal Audit in building credible, partnership-based, relationships with key stakeholders in aligned BU's and other assurance functions.
  • Act as focal point for building knowledge of aligned/BU's/audit themes across Internal Audit, using this knowledge to inform the effective targeting of Internal Audit effort to the key business risks.
  • Support the Head of Internal Audit in developing the team's talent and maximising its productivity. Ensure that quality conversations are held with those working on audit assignments with regard to goal-setting, performance appraisal and career development.
  • Coach and support colleagues within Internal Audit, and across the wider business, as an expert on internal control, governance and risk management matters.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of undertaking audit reviews within a financial services context.
  • Knowledge of financial services and risk management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in a 1:1 and group environment.
  • Proven relationship management skills, with a track record of engaging and influencing key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable ability to adapt and deliver in a fast-moving commercial environment.
  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g. accounting, internal audit or risk).
