Location: Walsall, West Midlands

Salary: Real living wage plus excellent benefits

Contract: 2 year Apprenticeship, Full Time, 37 hours per week

We have an opportunity for an IT Technician Apprentice to join our IT team. In this development role, you will receive training in order to be responsible for supporting IT systems and providing technical support to colleagues across the business.

It's an exciting time to join whg as we move into delivery of our new and ambitious six-year plan which will take us to 2030. The role of the IT Technician Apprentice will be critical in helping the business unlock the value of technology to achieve positive outcomes as driven by the plan.

This is a development role which includes training on ITIL4 processes, communication tools including Microsoft Teams and telephony systems. Customer facing skills are a priority and the role holder will need to forge excellent working relationships with colleagues across the business.

The development role includes exposure to additional roles in IT such as Infrastructure, IT Security, Application Development and Service Delivery Management.

Main job responsibilities:

  • This role is responsible for supporting whg colleagues and the IT systems they use, providing technical support of colleague devices including laptops, tablets, and mobile phones.
  • You will learn how to configure and maintain Active Directory, install software applications, and triage tickets raised with the IT Service Desk.
  • You will work alongside our IT Technicians in the Service Desk team aligned to ITIL principles, providing support for all IT systems used by colleagues in the business and carrying out duties as part of a support rota.
  • You will onboard new colleagues, set up and configure colleague equipment such as laptops and mobile phones and record information on the IT Service Management (ITSM) tool.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • A commitment to undertaking an IT Communications Technician Level 3 apprenticeship and qualification: Information communications technician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
  • A Level 2 or equivalent in Maths and English (grade C or above).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate conversations, actively listen and playback information to colleagues.
  • An interest in and appetite for learning about business systems, processes and solving problems and keen to deliver excellent customer service.
  • You will have a confident and positive approach with the ability to remain calm under pressure and deal with difficult situations in an effective, professional, and respectful manner.
  • A positive attitude, along with the ability to use own initiative, managing own time and priorities.
