MSC Industrial Supply is a £40m turnover autonomous and empowered UK business, backed by a US $4bn+ turnover listed group. They have the ambition to be the largest supplier of metal working tools. They are focused on adding value to their customer's business through the provision of engineering support - think optimal machine set up and programming to lower customer costs - as well as vending machine style solutions to support customers in more effective control and consumption of supplies.

What will I be doing?

As the Financial Controller you will be responsible for day-to-day financial operations, ensuring reporting, budgeting and compliance with regulatory requirements. You'll provide financial support to senior management, to maximise financial decision making, support profitable deal negotiation and drive business performance. You'll help to manage and optimize business systems to enhance efficiency.

  • Continuously review policies and procedures with a view to initiate improvements for overall efficiency, taking a strategic and methodical approach using a strong commercial acumen
  • Produce a monthly management pack, giving accurate and timely information for decision making
  • Management and mentoring of the Management Accountant ensuring, month end activity and ad-hoc tasks are completed to deadlines
  • Business Partner to the senior leadership team
  • Leading or support a variety of business projects to help drive an increasingly profitable business
  • Manage and be accountable for Balance Sheet reconciliations
  • Treasury management - cashflow, forecasting and banking
  • Review sales and costs to produce accurate monthly forecasts across the business
  • Advise commercial function on customer deal profitability and negotiations.
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts and the recording of these in the financial forecasting system
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate taxation and VAT requirements
  • Lead on third party finance system development to improve processes within the finance department
  • Prepare statutory accounts and lead on the liaison with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance to the Sarbanes Oxley internal control framework
  • Any other duties in line with business and departmental needs

Role Requirements:

  • CIMA, ACCA or ACA Qualified.
  • You will be able to demonstrate sound ERP system usage and Excel knowledge, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with your effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong attention to detail and organisational skills. Typical month end reporting turnaround time is 4 working days.
  • Previous experience working within Group company structure and matrix organization is useful.
  • Experience of product margin and inventory accounting.
