About the Role:

Reed Tutors, in collaboration with Gloucestershire Council, is seeking dedicated SEND Tutors to provide personalised mentoring and tuition to pupils within their homes. This role is essential in supporting the educational and emotional development of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage Pupils: Build trusting and supportive relationships with pupils to encourage their educational and personal development.
  • Tailored Tuition: Deliver customised tuition sessions that cater to the unique needs and learning styles of each pupil.
  • Risk Assessments: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment within the pupil's home.
  • Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor pupil progress, providing feedback and adapting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Collaborative Planning: Work closely with parents, carers, and other professionals to develop and follow EHCP plans.
  • Resource Development: Create and utilise diverse educational resources to enhance the learning experience of pupils.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive and supportive learning atmosphere.
  • Report Writing: Maintain detailed and accurate records of sessions, progress, and any incidents, and prepare reports as required.

Essential Experience and Qualifications:

  • SEND Experience: Proven experience working with pupils with SEND is essential.
  • Teaching Qualification: A recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Enhanced DBS Check: An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with pupils, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Patience and Empathy: Demonstrable patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of the local education system and relevant SEND legislation.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to meet the varying needs of pupils.
