Mechanical Technician

We have a great opportunity are for an enthusiastic individual to take on the important role of Mechanical Technician within our East Hyde waste operations area.

As the successful candidate You will be working alongside a multiskilled team who are passionate about delivering results and great service for our customers. The main part of your role will be to support a specialist maintenance team. On a daily basis, to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant equipment on one of the largest wastewater treatment plants in Europe.

Working within the team you will follow robust maintenance plans as well as get involved in assisting in the mechanical aspects of larger projects and repairs.

What you'll be doing as the Mechanical Technician

  • The role will include involvement in the site's equipment lubrication and oil monitoring plan, ensuring equipment's oil and grease levels are monitored and maintained.
  • You will be expected to provide assistance in the site's pump lifting & chain inspection programme, whereby you help lift various pumps from their location check them and record details of the chains that hold them in place.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be motors, gearboxes, various pumps and associated control gears.
  • The role will develop into the central point of contact for the site's parts and equipment ordering and inventory management process.

Base Location: East Hyde - Luton - LU1 3TS

Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7;30 am – 15;36pm plus the inclusion on a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.

Plus, the inclusion of a company van and fuel card

What you should bring to the role

  • To be a time-served apprentice with an NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering or a related mechanical/electrical qualification.
  • Experience working on related in an industry stores department or similar store/parts department with skills transferrable from another sector would be beneficial.EG motor industry, HGV or PSV maintenance or Civil engineering maintenance.
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utilities industry would be beneficial. Would suit mechanical maintenance/service engineers or mechanics from any industry.
  • 18TH Edition would be beneficial but not a requirement for this role.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential.
  • The work will require physical fitness as you will work in manual handling and often physically demanding roles.
  • A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as tools are provided.
