The BMS & Controls Specialist will support the Managing Director in securing work and managing the service, repair and installation of building management systems and controls projects.
The role will suit someone who has a background in BMS and Controls, securing work and delivering services on time and within budget to public sector clients such as Local Authorities, Schools, Police Forces, etc. The role will be hands on delivering maintenances and repairs services to clients and also incorporate assisting and providing guidance, training and supervision to our Electrical, Projects and Repairs & Maintenance teams when undertaking upgrades and refurbishments to control systems that may include boiler plant rooms and HVAC plant and equipment. Consequently, the role demands the capability to liaise with colleagues and clients to provide guidance and advice.
Support the Managing Director in the following:
Act as Controls Specialist and undertake the duties of a Controls Specialist for the company and ensure all paperwork is verified, legally compliant and in line with industry best practice; inspect this work where relevant
Assist with the preparation of quotations and develop and secure the pipeline of controls/BMS works working with the estimating team and other JH-ME staff
Review the team resources requirements and investment to ensure we can provide excellent service delivery to clients
Complete site surveys prior to works commencement
Undertake pre-start meetings with the client
Set clear targets for the work to be undertaken and brief staff on the works to be done
Supervise with the Electrical Manager and advise electricians, other staff and sub-contractors who undertake BMS & Controls work;
Actively participate in pre/post/job specific RAMS, working with the QHSE ensure all works undertaken is H&S compliant (in line with company, HSE and CDM guidelines) and that staff are briefed and trained on any H&S matters, or any industry / HSE updates
Ensure all job cards and project paperwork is checked and is compliant
Ensure best value on materials purchase undertaken by the team
Perform and lead on site for BMS and Controls works; to include the following areas:
Installing, maintaining and repairing electrical wiring of various control systems.
Must possess practical, productive and electrical skills with adequate technical supervisory knowledge so as to work on their own proficiently and carry out electrical installation and testing work without immediate supervision.
Must apply a thorough working knowledge of the National Working Rules for the Electrical Contracting Industry, of the current I.E.E. Regulations for Electrical Installations, of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the Electricity Supply Regulations, Installations (i.e. Regulations 22-29 inclusive and 31), of any Regulations dealing with Consumers' installations which may be issued, relevant British Standards and codes of practice, and of the Construction Industry Safety Regulations.
Ensure all work is signed off prior to invoicing and ensure all relevant paperwork, reports and relevant certifications are supplied along with the invoices.
Manage all assets assigned to the team, ensuring they are kept fit for purpose and reducing unnecessary costs to the company
Support the management team with the retention of existing clients and continuous growth of the business
Deal with client queries in relation to the projects being delivered and subsequent work undertaken
Manage any job disputes, representing the company positively and protecting its interests
Monitor job performance and ensure both company KPIs and client KPIs are being met, and report into the directors on project team performance
Complete inspections of work on a regular basis and provide feedback and training to staff via toolbox talks/one-to-one to improve performance, where relevant
Work with the directors to drive forward agreed company priorities and assist with the continuous development of the company as we grow from strength to strength.
Undertake any training and development deemed necessary by the directors for you to fulfil your duties
Any other duties deemed relevant for the role
Requirements
At least 5 years' experience as a BMS Engineer
At least 5 years' experience as an electrician, of which 3 years in a supervisory capacity
NVQ level 2 & 3 Electrical Installation
Have a thorough working knowledge of the National Working Rules for the Electrical Contracting Industry, of the current I.E.E. ECS Health and Safety Test or equal
JIB Gold Card
IOSH/SMSTS/SSSTS or equivalent
IPAF & PASMA
Sound knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH Legislation and M&E industry regulations
Computer literate with skills in word, excel, email, internet etc and CRM skills
