Position: Design and Technology (DT) Teacher
Salary: £30,000 - £42,000 per annum

The Role:
As a DT Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and inspiring lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping students develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge in areas such as product design, resistant materials, and graphics. You will play a key role in shaping students' abilities to think critically, solve real-world problems, and express their creativity through technology and design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engaging Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver high-quality lessons that align with the national curriculum and promote enthusiasm for design and technology.
  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the continuous improvement of the DT curriculum, ensuring it remains relevant, challenging, and exciting for students.
  • Hands-on Learning: Provide students with practical, hands-on experiences in the workshop, promoting safe use of tools and equipment while fostering creativity and innovation.
  • Student Progress: Assess and monitor student performance, providing constructive feedback to support improvement and celebrate achievement.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive, productive, and safe learning environment, using effective classroom management techniques to ensure all students can engage in lessons.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Support and lead extracurricular activities such as technology clubs or design competitions, enriching the student learning experience.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues in the department to share best practices and ensure consistency across all year groups.

Requirements:

  • QTS/QTLS/PGCE: Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS), or a PGCE in Design and Technology (or a closely related field).
  • Subject Expertise: Strong subject knowledge in design and technology, including areas such as product design, materials technology, or engineering.
  • Teaching Experience: Proven experience teaching DT at secondary level, ideally with familiarity with the GCSE curriculum.
  • Passion for Creativity: A genuine enthusiasm for design and technology, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Classroom Management: Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to engage and challenge students of all abilities.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues to drive forward departmental goals and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of health and safety protocols, particularly in a workshop setting.
