Billing Clerk
- Part-Time - 3.5 Days
- Location: Central Bristol / Remote
Day to Day of the role:
- Receive billing information from Barristers via email and ensure all required documents are present or accessible on Dropbox.
- Verify travel details and check the funding certificate using Meridian Law Connected (MLC); request from Solicitors if not available.
- Review date and scope to ensure billing under the correct category and rate.
- Draft claims using details provided by Counsel through MLC, ensuring all documents are presented correctly.
- Email instructing solicitors for any missing documents, such as briefs or funding certificates, and ensure counsel is assigned on CCMS with the required amount.
- Log claim details and progress on a spreadsheet.
- Submit claims to the Legal Aid Agency (LAA) via the online portal once Counsel is assigned correctly on CCMS.
- Check CCMS Notifications daily to update claim progress.
- Log and resolve any rejects received via CCMS Notification.
- Pass details of payments received and remittance advice to the Fees Team weekly.
- Stay updated with all LAA updates and inform the Family Practice Group and Family Clerks of all salient points.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in legal aid billing, preferably within a family law environment.
- Proficiency in using Meridian Law Connected (MLC) or similar legal billing software.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a high volume of work efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Familiarity with the Legal Aid Agency's processes and CCMS.
