Are you an experienced legal executive with litigation experience? We are looking for someone like you to join our third-party claims team at Thames Water. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in litigating multiple civil and statutory claims. What you'll be doing as a Litigation Legal Executive
- Pursuing negligence and strict liability-based claims through negotiation and, where necessary, through litigation.
- Identify and assess legal risks.
- Provide general legal advice and support to the third-party team either personally or with the help of specialist legal advisors internally and externally.
- Progressing cases through the County Court from the issue of proceedings through to enforcement of the judgment.
- Instructing Counsel and obtaining expert witnesses.
- Negotiate with third parties and their insurers to ensure efficient handling of any claim queries and/or challenges.
- Work closely with the third-party team and the operational teams, gathering further evidence and witness statements where required.
- Attend and arrange mediations and without prejudice meetings with third parties.
- Attend court with counsel when required.
- Work with operational stakeholders to gather witness statements.
- Based on Hybrid working; Clearwater Court, Reading, or Walnut Court, Swindon, you will be expected to be in the office 1-2 days a week.
- 36 hours a week, Monday to Friday, we would be open to full-time and job-share applicants for this role.
This role does require a driver's licence and access to a car.
What you should bring to the role
- You will be a knowledgeable civil litigator with practical experience with a law degree and be CiLex accredited.
- Be able to manage and litigate a large caseload effectively.
- Dealing with all the relevant claims processes, such as part 36, part 20, Letter Before Action, Particulars of Claim, Court Forms, Tomlin orders, etc., are all essential requirements for this role. The ability to advise on costs, mediation, and other forms of dispute resolution, as well as instruct expert witnesses and advise on disclosure, is also essential.
