Domestic Abuse Refuge Manager - Loughborough

Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Domestic Abuse Refuge Manager based in Loughborough.

The purpose of this role is to provide managerial support to all aspects of the refuge. This is a 24-hour refuge which provides a safe place for women and their children who have been victims of domestic violence. The jobholder will be you responsible for the day-to-day running of this service. You will be doing rota's, budgeting, managing staff, training staff, assisting with benefit claims, using computer systems, conducting talks and presentations to local authorities, the public and other organisations and much more

This is a part time 20 hours per week, permanent role, offering a salary of £16,462.93 (£30,868 per annum FTE) per annum

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To provide line management and support to staff. This will include providing supervision on complex casework issues such as child protection, adult safeguarding and overseeing operational emergencies and ensuring high standards of casework.
  • To ensure that contractual and other funding requirements are met fully and that Refuge's high-quality standards are maintained.
  • The job involves working closely with staff that support survivors of domestic violence and their children in crisis using our services.
  • As a member of the management team, the post holder will be required to participate with other managers in an out-of-hours management service.
  • To welcome new BME residents into culturally sensitive accommodation and ensure a smooth and friendly settling in and issuing bedding, culturally sensitive crockery, food etc.
  • To arrange and provide culturally sensitive practical assistance for service users where necessary including advocacy and liaison escorting to relevant agencies such as solicitors, court, DSS, Doctor, Health Visitors, Colleges, Housing, Social Services, CPN's.
  • To manage and develop staff in accordance with Refuge's performance management scheme, ensuring their involvement in the continuous improvement of services.
  • To support staff through monthly supervision meetings, ensuring that probationary reviews are carried out.
  • To be available to undertake out of hours and night work on a rota basis.
  • To receive calls out of hours from residents and the Helpline.
  • To keep accurate up to date records in line with organisation's procedure and ensure all case files electronic and paper are maintained and kept in good order.
  • To assist residents to fill in forms i.e., housing benefit, income support, housing and internal forms.
  • To keep adrift of changing legislation and policies, safeguarding child protection, vulnerable adults.
  • To maintain confidentiality and Information Governance procedures and report any breaches to the data controller or IG Lead as appropriate.

Person Specification

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in work with vulnerable people especially DA victims, women, young people and children.
  • Minimum of two year working with BME communities experiencing forced marriage & honour-based violence and abuse
  • Minimum of three years in a care or social welfare setting
  • You will have a strong background in working with people who have been victims of domestic violence and abuse.
  • You will have worked for a non-profit organisation and have a good knowledge of how the benefits system works.
  • You will have managerial experience in a similar setting, and it would be advantageous if you have worked with people with complex needs before.
  • Fluent in English and at least one main BME language
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and write reports
  • Good understanding of multi-agency partnership working, of different agencies both statutory and voluntary In-depth knowledge of principles of confidentiality
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation e.g. Children's act, Safeguarding children.
