School Finance Manager - Interim

Edward Mann are exclusively partnered with a Private School in South-West London in the recruitment of an interim Finance Manager to cover an extended staff absence for the next 3-6 months. This role will be reporting directly into the Head of Finance and requires someone immediately available and able to attend work on-site 5 days per week at the school. This is a contract opportunity offering a day rate of 250-350 per day dependent on experience and qualifications.

Daily responsibilities:

  • Budget Management:

  • Oversee and manage the school's budget, ensuring spending aligns with financial plans.

  • Monitor budget performance and report variances to the senior leadership team.

  • Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports for senior management and the board of governors.

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial statements, including income and expenditure reports.

  • Fee Administration:

  • Manage the billing and collection of tuition fees, ensuring timely payments.

  • Handle fee-related queries from parents and guardians, addressing any discrepancies.

  • Cash Flow Management:

  • Monitor the school's cash flow, ensuring sufficient funds are available for operational needs.

  • Manage bank reconciliations and oversee daily banking operations.

  • Payroll Management:

  • Supervise the payroll process, ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time.

  • Handle payroll queries and ensure compliance with relevant tax and employment regulations.

  • Supplier and Vendor Management:

  • Oversee the payment of invoices and manage relationships with suppliers.

  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and ensure value for money in procurement.

  • Compliance and Auditing:

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, including UK accounting standards and school-specific regulations.

  • Coordinate with external auditors during financial audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Expense Management:

  • Review and approve expenditures, ensuring they align with the school's budget and financial policies.

  • Implement cost-saving measures where possible without compromising the quality of education.

  • Stakeholder Communication:

  • Liaise with the Headteacher, Board of Governors, and other key stakeholders regarding financial matters.

  • Present financial information in a clear and accessible manner to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Financial Systems Management:

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the school's financial management systems.

  • Ensure that financial data is securely stored and accurately recorded in the school's systems.

Experience required:

  • Qualified/QBE Accountant:

  • Will ideally hold a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).

  • Strong understanding of UK accounting standards and practices, particularly in the education sector.

  • Experience in Educational Finance:

  • Previous experience in a financial management role within a school or educational institution is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with the specific financial challenges and regulatory requirements of the private school sector.
