Finance Assistant

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our Newton Abbot client on a 6-month fixed term contract. The primary focus of this role will be on managing the Purchase Ledger, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of invoices. The ideal candidate will be capable of handling high volumes of transactions efficiently while maintaining high standards of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Invoice Processing: Process hundreds of purchase invoices each week, ensuring all are correctly coded and approved in accordance with company policy.
  • Ledger Management: Maintain the Purchase Ledger, ensuring it is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Reconciliation: Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
  • Payment Runs: Assist in preparing and processing weekly and monthly payment runs.
  • Query Resolution: Handle and resolve invoice queries from suppliers and internal departments.
  • Documentation: Ensure all financial documents are filed and stored accurately and securely.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Support: Provide general support to the finance team as needed, including assisting with month-end processes and other ad hoc duties.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience: Proven experience in a similar role, particularly within Purchase Ledger or Accounts Payable.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and processing.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage high volumes of transactions.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to handle queries professionally.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using accounting software (experience with [Your Accounting Software] is an advantage) and MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Team Player: Ability to work well within a team and support colleagues during busy periods.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A relevant qualification in finance or accounting (AAT Level 2 or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in a finance role, with a focus on Purchase Ledger.
