Role overview:

To maintain public safety by undertaking all functions associated with the end-to-end life cycle of Taxi Driver, Private Hire Driver or Operator licensees and applicants, including assessing applications received against agreed safety, medical and legal standards and undertaking checks to ensure existing licensees continue to meet required standards.

Key Information:

  • Location: Stratford |Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days at home)
  • Hours: 35 hours a week, Monday - Friday
  • Hourly Rate: £14.72 per hour
  • Contract Duration: 6 months (View to extend)
  • Start Date: ASAP

Key Accountabilities:

  • Undertake a full assessment of all new and renewal applications for Taxi and Private Hire Driver, and Operator licenses
  • Working with partner agencies to obtain and assess the contents of Enhanced Criminal Records checks to ensure that there are no prior or current convictions which would indicate a safety risk to the traveling public
  • Reviewing applications to ensure that applicants have subscribed to the DBS Update Service and that their record does not indicate an existing or new risk to public safety
  • Working with the Home Office to assess and confirm that applicants have the right to work in the UK
  • Working with the DVLA to obtain and review the driving history of applicants to ensure that they have sufficient driving experience to be eligible for a licence and that any current or prior driving endorsements do not indicate a safety risk
  • Obtaining and assessing medical records for applicants against DVLA Group 2 standards to ensure that they meet the required medical standards for a professional Taxi or PHV driver
  • Working with TfL's Occupational Health team and liaising with external medical professionals and specialists to obtain further information in order to undertake additional reviews of complex medical cases
  • Undertake a full review of any licence applications to ensure that the above and any other relevant standards are met in order to be considered for licensing
  • Respond to enquiries from and proactively engage with applicants or licensees via written correspondence or by telephone
  • Make decisions to issue or revoke licenses, approve or reject applications on a case by case basis in line with agreed standards, business rules and legislation
  • Undertake periodic assessments for existing licensees including reviewing medical records, to ensure they remain suitable to hold a licence
  • Facilitating completion of assessments for new Taxi and Private Hire Driver applicants, including Knowledge of London, SERU and English Language, to ensure they possess sufficient knowledge to undertake their role effectively and safely
