Network Engineer

We are seeking an experienced contract IT Network Engineer to join our Global Investment Banks UK Networks team, responsible for the corporate and trading networks. This role involves significant enhancements to its latency-sensitive global trading network, requiring a professional with a proven record in network stability and efficiency.

This Network Engineer role is hybrid and inside IR35

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • CCIE qualification is preferred, though equivalent expertise will be considered.
  • Extensive experience in a highly available, latency-sensitive network environment.
  • Proficient in multiple network technologies (switching & routing) and security (firewall, Web Gateway & LTM).
  • Strong knowledge of Cisco and/or Arista architectures with hands-on design and configuration experience.
  • Expertise in core routing protocols (OSPF, BGP) and IP transmission modes (Unicast, Multicast).
  • Experience with low-level log & packet analysis.
  • Knowledge of Python and network automation is desirable.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently within a global support structure.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Collaborate with a small, agile, and multi-skilled team to ensure the stability and optimization of both London and trading networks.
  • Engage directly with developers and application support teams to understand application interactions with the infrastructure, ensuring successful implementation and migration to new architectures.
  • Produce high-level and detailed design documentation, continuously reviewing for accuracy.
  • Provide operational handover and training sessions to both local and offshore teams.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for incidents, requests, and changes within the network domain.
  • Work closely with strategic technology partners and market vendors to manage software releases, connectivity implementations, and testing.
  • Monitor global network performance and capacity, planning and overseeing work at remote sites.
