About the role
We are seeking a Lead Infrastructure engineer who is an expert in Microsoft technologies.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an extensive knowledge of Active Directory, in terms of designing, operating and supporting multi-forest and domain environments for large organisations. You will also be able to demonstrate a history of designing resilient DR processes for Active Directory and configuring efficient site replication topologies for AD, DNS and DHCP.
As well as an in-depth knowledge of on-premises Active Directory, you will need to have considerable experience of Azure integration and best practice in the use of hybrid and cloud identities in EntraID. You will also be expected to be well versed in the use of Azure services such as PIM, Intune, Conditional access policies, Defender, ARC, Azure update manager and Azure Windows Admin Centre.
The role is predominantly that of a Microsoft expert, but we are seeking a senior engineer who has had experience with multiple cloud vendors. In particular, an understanding of AWS AD services and route 53 would be a distinct advantage.
We would expect the candidate to also have a expert knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server technologies throughout their career and a thorough understanding of the best practices in the configuration and support of an Exchange Hybrid Exchange configuration.
You will most probably have gained your experience in a support or project role across many years if not decades and so will have a fantastic breadth of understanding across many technologies at an enterprise level : Server operating systems, Networking, Storage, Virtualisation etc. You will particularly have experience of best practice Server build processes across on premises and cloud platforms and be able to explain the financial and functional implications of both.

About you
We are looking for a lot more than someone who understands the technology. You must be able to confidently and credibly define best practices by drawing on tried and tested methods. You will be comfortable with responding to challenge to your ideas and be able to back them up with workplace experience and knowledge of industry best practice.
The ideal candidate will be at the pinnacle of their career and have experience proposing, debating and challenging architectural plans. Able to collaborate productively with Architects. You will have also played a large part in defining and setting up a unified architectural design to ensure tooling is most appropriate and consistent across the estate.
Other Skills and Knowledge
- Experience of developing technology roadmaps.
- Experience in highly secure environments preferably within financial institutions and you will have thorough understanding of ITIL and Agile processes.
