Risk & Controls Manager

Our client is a well-known building society with headquarters in Swindon; As one of the largest savings and mortgage providers in the UK, 15 million members are at the heart of everything they do.

On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for a Risk & Controls Manager for a 6-month contract based in Swindon.

Purpose of the Role:

As the Risk & Controls Manager, you'll be at the forefront of safeguarding our organization. You'll oversee the operation and reporting of the Economic Crime Risk & Compliance-owned Economic Crime Risk Assessment (ECRA) tool, providing essential advice and support across all three Lines of Defence (LoD) and their Accountable Executives.

As a Risk & Controls Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the syndication and management of the ECRA tool, its training materials, and a bespoke methodology that complies with regulatory requirements in all jurisdictions where the business operates.
  • Overseeing an effective ECRA operating cycle and develop a detailed reporting model.
  • Supervising the completion of the ECRA exercise, ensuring adherence to the established methodology.
  • Working closely with the wider Economic Crime Risk & Compliance team to achieve all ECRA-related objectives within agreed timelines.
  • Evaluating the results of the ECRA exercise, identify potential issues, and challenge outcomes as necessary.
  • Handling escalation and proactive issue management related to the ECRA tool, its completion, and reporting, providing updates to the Head of Governance, MI & Reporting or directly to the Director of Economic Crime Risk & Compliance when needed.
  • Participating in threat assessment and horizon scanning activities to identify new economic crime exposures and changes in legislation or regulatory expectations. Ensure the ECRA tool and methodology are updated promptly.
  • Creating and reviewing all regular and ad-hoc reports, beyond the annual post-ECRA completion reporting, and develop relevant management information.

What we require from the candidate:

  • AML experience.
  • Experience of Risk Assessments.
  • Experience of Project Management environments.
  • Significant experience and a detailed understanding of the economic crime risks and how they may develop in the future.
  • Experience of meeting demanding deadlines, and being able to work with multiple stakeholders across all three LoD, to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the agreed specifications.
