Technician - Health & Safety

Location: Highland (covering various locations across Sutherland, Caithness, and Ross-shire)
Hours: 35 per week (part-time can be considered)
Duration: 6 months (starting Tuesday, 8th October)
Service: Roads
Grade: £29,047 to £32,359 p.a. (salary based on qualifications and experience) pro-rata
Our client is seeking a Health & Safety Technician to support the Roads Team across Sutherland, Caithness, and Ross-shire. This role will provide vital Health & Safety guidance and coordination to operational Roads Teams, ensuring a strong focus on safety compliance in the workplace. You will act as a key link between the Roads Team and our client's Occupational Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Team.
Job Purpose
As part of this role, you will:

  • Provide coordination with the Occupational Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Team.
  • Assist Area Teams in developing Risk Assessments and Method Statements for all Roads Maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and support the annual review of Risk Assessments.
  • Create and maintain Toolbox Talks for Roads Maintenance activities.
  • Develop and maintain a Roads Health & Safety SharePoint library and HAVs database for equipment.
  • Coordinate the delivery of Toolbox Talks and ensure attendance is recorded.
  • Develop and manage Health & Safety inductions for Roads Operatives.

Person Specification
Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in a construction environment.
  • Experience preparing Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Toolbox Talks.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Good IT skills and ability to use technology effectively.
  • Logical problem-solving approach.
  • Commitment to public service.
  • Ability to achieve set targets.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a roads maintenance environment.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH qualification, or similar (e.g. Site Management Supervision).

Start Date: Tuesday, 8th October
Travel: You will be expected to travel efficiently between various locations across Sutherland, Caithness, and Ross-shire.

  • Undertake ongoing Risk Assessments.
  • Understand and comply with the our client's Health & Safety Procedures.
