Departmental Overview

Headed up by the Manufacturing Manager, the manufacturing team consists of a Team Leader and Production Operatives. They are a crucial part of our growing manufacturing team and are located on the factory floor within our modern specialist manufacturing facility in Washington.

Job Purpose / Primary Objective

The production operative's primary role is to assemble components into printed circuit boards, perform test routines on assemblies, assembly of parts into a final product and carry out electrical safety tests in accordance with current policies and procedures, the production schedule, and the Quality management System (QMS)

Providing rotational cover, the Production operative will be fully trained and cross skilled within all of our Production areas.

Key responsibilities

The production operative's main role is to ensure that the production schedule is completed in accordance with the companies' policies, procedures, and quality management system (QMS). That the product type, quantity, time scale, cycle time, set up/ change over time and quality requirements are achieved and maintained.

They will also be responsible for:

  • Ensuring any procedural issues are identified, highlighted, and reworked in accordance with the QMS.
  • Monitoring their performance output against the company expectations and adjusting performance to ensure the KPI's are achieved without any adverse effects on the quality standards.
  • Recording accurate data of their activities using the state-of-the-art electronic devices in line with our ERP and management system tools.
  • Monitoring their operational processes & procedures and highlighting /communicating any actions required, concerns or improvement opportunities, including further training opportunities or requirements.
  • Ensuring the highest level of operational efficiency is maintained, including effective and timely handover during periods of rotation within the Production dept.
  • Ensure excellent housekeeping standards are maintained and improved upon.
  • Ensuring that routine maintenance & calibration checks have been carried out in accordance with the company QMS, the manufacturers specifications and training schedules.
  • Providing rotational cover for Production Operatives within each area of Production

Relationships, accountability, and responsibilities

The Production Operative is responsible for the overall quality of the product they manufacture. To be effective in this role it is vital that they build up constructive and lasting relation with;

  • The Manufacturing Manager-to be able to update them on all operational issues
  • The Team leader and Senior Operative- to be able to communicate any Production Dept issues affecting quality and performance and ability to perform their role to company expectations.
  • Technicians- To be able to communicate issues with equipment or products to ensure a timely and effective resolution is achieved.
  • Production Operatives- To be able to provide an effective handover and communicate effectively & be a constructive and active member of the team.
