The Role
We are presently hiring for a Design Engineer will be responsible for producing in-building system designs from initial requirements capture with the client to satisfactory submission of approved design reports. The full duties of the designer also include on-site design & testing surveys, developing the most appropriate and cost-effective design using survey information and design experience, preparation of documentation and revision of the designs reviewed by the client. The successful candidate will have experience with traditional DAS for large venues and enterprise small cells.
The candidate is expected to attend customer sites to conduct design surveys at the early stages of an opportunity. The suitable candidate will therefore be expected to:
- Discuss and finalise requirements capture with the client.
- Complete Handover Packs, Post Integration Reports, HLDs and Detailed Design Reports.
- Have a good working knowledge of Indoor antenna solutions, their capabilities and limitations.
- Travel UK-wide to attend customer sites.
- Act professionally and in the best interests of the company at all times and maintain good client relations.
- Provide estimated effort and resources required for particular tasks.
- Prioritise workload according to meet customer needs.
- Assist and support other Design portfolio teams as requested by the Head of Engineering and as may be necessary from time to time. This includes DAS, private network and Special Projects teams.
Requirements
- Have experience performing RF Modelling and designs of in-building cellular systems using design tools such as iBwave or RanPlan - for DAS, small cell & outdoor systems. (ideal but not essential).
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications - including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Translate design criteria and requirements into system dimensioning, link budget and traffic analysis.
- Have some experience of RF interference troubleshooting, using PIM testers, cable testers (ideal but not essential).
- Complete RAMS and abide by the company's health and safety policy.
- Perform RF and Design Surveys for inbuilding systems, including Carrier Wave testing, post-integration testing, existing coverage testing, including experience with survey and analysis tools such as TEMS investigation, TEMS Discovery or Nemo.
- Experienced in processing survey data and producing/reviewing survey data plots and tables.
- Be experienced with survey and analysis tools such as TEMS investigation, TEMS Discovery or Nemo.
- Review results, drawings and reports produced by their team members and by suppliers.
- Ability to communicate technical details to a non-technical audience as well as strong verbal skills in relation to dealing with clients.
- High degree of accuracy and organisation skills.
- Ability to adhere to pre-agreed timescales and SLAs.
- Ability to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team
