Billing Assistant

My client a boutique law firm are seeking a Billing Assistant to join their team for a 14 month FTC. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the prompt and accurate production of bills, complying with VAT rules and presentational standards. This role requires excellent Excel skills, attention to detail, and the ability to liaise effectively with clients and colleagues across all levels of the business.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Ensure the prompt and accurate production of all bills, adhering to VAT rules and presentational standards.
  • Assist in the processing of write-offs and inter-folio transfers.
  • Prepare soft copy bills and manage distribution as directed.
  • Liaise with fee earners to resolve billing queries.
  • Support the E-Billing process and provide cover within the team for absences.
  • Prepare Work in Progress and Costs Incurred reports for clients and fee earners.
  • Assist in systems testing and support other systems change-over activities.
  • Manage own portfolio of clients and maintain open communication with the Billing Lead and team members.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Excellent Excel skills are essential.
  • Understanding of VAT rules relating to billing is desirable.
  • Strong arithmetic, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a partnership environment is preferred.
  • Confident, organised, persistent, and tactful when dealing with senior personnel.
  • Experience with Word and practice management systems; willingness to learn in-house Billing and Charging System and IBM Notes.
