Quantity Surveyor Role | Hitchin | High End Refurbishment
A leading heritage contractor is currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. The role will be site based in Hitchin working on a high end external and internal refurbishment/ fit out. You will be joining a very well established contractor who can offer development and progression:
Location: Hitchin (site based)
Project: £5m high end residential refurbishment starting in the next 1-2 months
Reporting to: Visiting Commercial Director
Duties:
- Analyse and interpret tender documents and estimators submissions.
- Take off quantities from architectural drawings and specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to best practice.
- Negotiate and agree contract terms with subcontractors specialising in heritage and conservation work.
- Monitor and control project costs throughout the construction lifecycle, identifying and managing variations and claims.
- Compile and present monthly cost and value reconciliations for review of project performance with the commercial director
- Prepare and submit interim and final valuations to our clients, including compiling variations and the necessary substantiation to support variation claims.
- Prepare and submit interim and final valuations for subcontractors, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Work collaboratively with the project team, including site managers, architects, and engineers, to ensure project goals are met within budget.
- Maintain detailed project records and reports for cost control purposes.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in heritage and conservation construction.
Candidate:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a quantity surveyor in the UK construction industry.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget, preferably in the heritage and conservation sector.
- In-depth knowledge of JCT contracts and experience interpreting bespoke term contracts. Experience in NEC would also be advantageous.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using the Microsoft software suite (e.g. Excel, Word and Project).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Preferably a strong understanding of heritage construction methods, materials, and specifications, however, training will be provided.
- A valid driving license
