Tax and Compliance Manager

JN Bentley are looking for a Tax and Compliance Manager to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will have confidence with ERP systems, databases and handling large sets of data.

Candidates will have the following:

To be successful, you will have proven experience of working in a similar role. A relevant Finance or Tax qualification e.g. ACCA, ACA or CTA is required. Experience in the construction sector is advantageous but not a pre requisite.

The ability to work accurately and to achieve deadlines is a must. This is a fast-paced environment and will suit a candidate who enjoys a mixture of both reporting and ad hoc project work. This is a great opportunity for an individual with strong interpersonal skills and a positive "can do" attitude to identify opportunities for improvement and drive change.

The role will report to the Head of Finance but will involve significant interaction with the Group Tax function of our parent company.

Responsibilities will include:

Preparation and submission of:

  • Annual Corporation Tax return for the Group
  • Quarterly corporation tax provisions and Group Payment Arrangement estimate
  • Supporting both internal stakeholders and external advisers with the preparation of the annual RDEC claim
  • Quarterly VAT returns for the VAT Group
  • CIS return
  • PAYE settlement agreement

Other responsibilities

  • Manage and enhance the controls which support accurate and compliant tax reporting
  • Be the point of contact for tax queries from HMRC, internal stakeholders and auditors
  • Promote training and awareness of tax issues throughout the wider organisation
  • Add value by providing tax planning advice to the organisation when required
  • Embed new tax technology to support tax reporting
  • Promote increased digitisation to support efficient and accurate compilation of tax data
  • Undertake internal tax assurance reviews
  • Continuous review of tax legislation to identify relevant changes
  • Ad hoc compliance tasks which may include National Living Wage, GDPR and general internal audit responsibilities.

We encourage agile working but will anticipate a minimum of 3 days per week to be based in our Skipton Head Office.

We are open to receiving applications from candidates either looking to work on a full-time basis or a minimum of 30 hours per week, to be worked over 4 or 5 days.
