Job Title: Strategic Assurance Auditor

Location: Hertfordshire (Hybrid - 2 Days On-site)

Contract: Full-Time, Immediate Start until End of Financial Year (3+ Months)

Rate: £300 per day (via Umbrella)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Assurance Auditor to join our team for a fixed-term contract. You will play a crucial role in planning and conducting high-quality strategic assurance work using a risk-based approach. Your work will focus on complex audits, including social care, council tax, and taxi licensing, aimed at delivering impactful audit reports that drive real and sustained improvements in governance, risk, and control arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute comprehensive and strategic audits with a focus on high-impact areas.
  • Conduct cross-cutting reviews that address complex issues within local authority operations.
  • Produce detailed audit reports that offer actionable insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders across multiple councils.
  • Conduct on-site visits up to 2 days per week, with the remainder of the work being conducted remotely.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in strategic assurance or complex auditing within a local government setting.
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk, and control frameworks, particularly in social care, council tax, and licensing.
  • Ability to deliver clear and impactful audit reports that lead to tangible improvements.
  • Availability to start immediately and commit to the role until the end of the financial year.
  • Must be local to Hertfordshire or within a commutable distance.
