The Company:

ER Recruitment is working exclusively with the award-winning team at Michael Smith Switchgear to recruit this brand new role due to their continued growth and success.

The desired candidate will control the stores from goods in and out and all other stores activities on a daily basis, including purchasing of goods for stock, allocation to projects and having overall control and responsibility of the stores department, including team management.

Role & Responsibilities of the Stores Manager:

  • To lead, motivate and manage stores personnel on a daily basis.
  • Overseeing, assisting with and ensuring all stock and non-stock items are allocated to the correct project cage ready for production.
  • Overseeing bonded stock contracts with relevant suppliers.
  • Loading and unloading vehicles using a forklift truck.
  • Leading weekly rotational stocktakes as well as quarterly full stocktakes.
  • Checking goods in, ensuring that materials are delivered in a good condition and as per the order.
  • To maintain relationships with suppliers and ensure that materials are supplied in a timely manner and that prices are competitive.
  • Sourcing alternative products where necessary and negotiating discounts to ensure the best price every time.
  • Placing purchase orders for stock and non-stock items through our Sage 200 system, ensuring costs are kept up to date at all times and adhering to minimum stock levels.
  • Maintaining records of materials received and parts outstanding.
  • Liaising with the Production Manager and Production Coordinator to ensure that late or unavailable items do not impact on Production.
  • Order Processing where required.
  • Dispatching goods where required.
  • Overseeing the other stores personnel to ensure that all general stores duties are carried out, including maintaining a clean and tidy workplace, and ensuring that materials are stored in a safe and acceptable manner.
  • Organising stores personnel to collect or drop off any goods that are required or that are free issued to our suppliers.
  • Maintaining positive communication with the team at all times
  • Adhering to, promoting and enforcing health and safety regulations. Identifying any improvements and liaising with the H&S Manger accordingly.
  • Adhering to, promoting and enforcing all Company policies, as outlined in the Employee Handbook, as required.
  • Working closely with the HR Department on Staff Management, including but not limited to, carrying out interviews for new starters, inducting and training new starters, carrying out annual appraisals, dealing with leavers and all HR tasks which are likely to be initiated by you as the Line Manager, such as absence reviews, disciplinary matters etc.
  • Adhering to, promoting and enforcing all environmental policies and procedures.

About You as the Stores Manager:

  • Forklift licence (Counterbalance, independently issued, not in house)
  • Full driving licence
  • Good level of numeracy and literacy skills, including knowledge of stocktaking and basic costing
  • A proven track record of people management, including training and development.
  • A methodical approach to processes and procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Previous experience in stores management.
  • Proficient in Health and Safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective IT skills including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Understanding of switchgear and low voltage switchgear systems would be beneficial but not essential.
