Group Financial Controller

Are you seeking a broad number two role within a medium sized charity? Can you demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and evidence a background in the charity sector? Are you a qualified Accountant? Read on if so!

In this permanent Group Financial Controller role, you will take full responsibility for managing and monitoring financial systems, policies, and procedures whilst ensuring the financial health of our organisation. This position will report into the CFO, leading five direct reports and a wider team of 20.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the preparation of high-quality, timely financial and performance management reports tailored to the needs of stakeholders, including trustees, senior managers, budget holders, and funders.
  • Present financial reports at Finance, Audit, and Investment committees and subsidiary board meetings.
  • Oversee the preparation of Financial Statements and coordinate with auditors to complete the annual audit according to schedule.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all Corporation Tax and VAT returns, maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and optimizing the organization's tax and VAT position.
  • Set clear direction and priorities for the finance team, ensuring their development, welfare, and motivation.
  • Ensure that financial policies are appropriately implemented, documented, and integrated into the finance department's core work practices.
  • Prepare management accounts in line with the monthly accounting timetable and ensure all reports, including Board reports, are delivered on time.
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed annual budgets and forecasts, and work with budget holders to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Oversee the management of cash flow, bank accounts, and treasury operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance with financial policies.

This Group Financial Controller role requires three visits a week to this charity's head office in central London and will best suit a proven Head of Finance with notable not for profit experience.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified Accountant.
  • Have previous experience in the charity sector.
  • Be a capable people manager.
  • Describe themselves as a highly technical Accountant.
  • Have previously operated as a number two.
