The Principal Designer Role

As the Principal Designer, you will be responsible for leading design risk management across multiple projects, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations, and embedding health and safety into the design process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Principal Designer duties in line with CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Provide expert advice on health and safety risks during the design phase.
  • Prepare and review pre-construction information and construction phase plans.
  • Lead design risk assessments and ensure effective hazard elimination.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, and contractors to ensure CDM compliance.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits to monitor safety performance.
  • Support and mentor junior team members and contribute to the development of the consultancy.

The Principal Designer:

  • Degree in a construction-related field.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB, or APS) is desirable.
  • Proven experience in delivering Principal Designer duties in the construction industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and health and safety best practices.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in relevant software and tools.
